It’s now several weeks since we ran the Perth Angels’ Annual Angel Breakfast and what a success it was! We were celebrating WA’s emerging technology sector as part of Angel Investing Month 2019.
“WA has some of the most exciting ventures…”
When it comes to emerging globally competitive technology, WA has some of the most exciting ventures whether that be in energy trading, cyber security or intelligent buildings as well as many other industries, each presenting high-value growth opportunities to investors with an appetite for early-stage risk.
We heard from Brett Savill of Quantify Technology, Jemma Green of PowerLedger and Glenn Murray of Sapien Cyber – all local high-profile tech companies. We heard about there journeys to raising the funds to fuel their development and then growth… all different pathways and all different stories.
Guests had an opportunity to meet Brett, Jemma and Glenn, and find out even more on their interesting stories. Guests also had an opportunity to meet the teams from other great emerging companies, all Perth Angel investments, including Fleetsu, The Volte, Bunsters and RhinoHyde.
We talked about how the state is doing a great job in supporting entrepreneurs… there has been substantial growth in entrepreneurial and accelerator programs with the CSIRO ON Programme, muru-D, Plus-8, Ignition, BioDesign and others.
“The market failure is in the private investor community and we need to build awareness, skills and knowledge around how to invest at the early stage…”
Then we talked about the challenge of the lack of a commensurate growth in early stage private investors… the market failure is in the private investor community and we need to build awareness, skills and knowledge around how to invest at the early stage, which is very different to IPO or private equity stage! This is the challenge Perth Angels are focused on – building the growth in early stage private investors.
